SAVE ENERGY, SAVE DOLLARS
August 6, 2009 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Cornell Cooperative Extension in Newark, September 1 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Wolcott Library, September 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Clyde-Savannah Library, September 15 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Newark and September 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Rose Library.

This is a 2-hour workshop designed to increase awareness of the actual energy cost of various components of our homes. Measures that can reduce energy usage are identified. Participants learn about energy programs and local resources available to help them improve the energy efficiency of their homes. In addition, the attendees are encouraged to identify specific actions they might take to reduce their own energy usage. A tool kit is provided FREE to each participant. Families who have experienced difficulty paying their utility bills are the target audience. However, workshops are free and open to the public. MAKING ENDS MEET
August 4, 2009 from 10:00 am to noon at Finger Lakes Career Center, 1519 Nye Rd., Lyons

This workshop covers money management and budgeting. It is presented in a FREE 2-hour format. Participants learn the importance of setting goals, knowing where their money is currently going and following a spending plan. An assortment of techniques and strategies for taking control of ones financial situation are presented. Participants identify one or two strategies that they might implement in their own lives to enhance their financial well-being. Each participant receives a free tool kit.

TAKE CONTROL OF CREDIT

This is the third workshop offered under the auspices of EmPower New York. Like the others, it is FREE and open to the public. Those attending also receive a tool kit to help them establish sound credit management. It helps participants develop an understanding of the world of credit/debt – how it impacts their lives and how they can manage in successfully. We explore debt management strategies, discuss credit reports – how to obtain, how to correct and how to improve – and look at ways to reduce one’s debt load. The program also looks at the wise use of credit in addition to providing direction when families are unable to pay bills.
