Community Nutrition and Wellness

Eat Smart New York, is New York State’s food stamp nutrition education program.

ESNY helps limited-resource individuals and families become more independent and self-sufficient.

Objectives

To insure that people have enough to eat without resorting to emergency food assistance.
To motivate people to adopt healthy eating and lifestyle behaviors.
To improve safe food handling, preparation and storage.
To enhance food resource management related to food shopping and preparation.
To foster changes that make nutritious, safe and affordable foods available to the food stamp population in Tioga County.

Methods

Our objectives are achieved through individual or group instruction by Nutrition Program Educators (NPEs) trained through Cornell University. Whether working one-on-one or with groups, NPEs tailor nutrition lessons to the needs and interests of participants.
