In our role as the planning office for Schuyler County, we assist municipalities with local land use, environmental and community development issues. We have many resources available within our office, and can provide basic research and consulting services. Any new projects of significant size require the approval of the Community Development and Natural Resources Committee of the Schuyler County Legislature.

Schuyler County’s first Agricultural District was formed in 1995. Since that time, local knowledge about the benefits of having property in a district has increased. Districts #2 & #3 were formed in 1999 and 2000 respectively. In total, over 97,000 acres are enrolled in Schuyler County’s 3 agricultural districts. There is an eight-year review cycle for all Schuyler districts, and parcels may be removed during a review. New York State agricultural districts law allows landowners to petition to include their agricultural lands in a district during an annual thirty-day review. Schuyler County has designated the period from January 15th to February 15th of every year as the petition period. However, adding lands during a review is still the most efficient, comprehensive method.
