I just saw an unusual insect in my yard that I’ve never seen before. It appeared to be some kind of moth, I think. It had a large yellow fuzzy body, like a bumble bee, but its tail was brown and shaped like a carapace, very much like the tail of a crawfish or lobster. The wings were large and angular, like the wings of a wasp; they were also translucent with black veining throughout. This insect was flying from one flower and appeared to be gathering nectar, since I know this cross-pollinates the flowers I left him alone rather than trying to catch him for a specimen. Does anyone know what this insect might have been or where I can find out more about it? Is this an invasive species that I should try to dispose of?
